Most roofing companies show up, measure your roof, and hand you a quote for shingles. That is only one piece of it. A residential roof is a complete system, and every layer has a job to do. The shingles are what you see from the street, but underneath those shingles is the structure that actually keeps water out of your house.
We start every conversation the same way: by helping you understand what your roof actually is and what it is doing for you right now. That means talking about the decking, the underlayment, the ice and water shield in the valleys, the flashing around your pipes and vents, and the ventilation that keeps your attic from turning into an oven in July or an ice factory in January. When you understand how all of those pieces work together, the decisions about materials and scope start to make a lot more sense.

When you call us for a roof assessment, Bob or one of our project managers comes out to your home. We get on the roof. We look at everything, not just the shingles. We check the flashing, the boots around your pipes, the condition of your valleys, the state of the ventilation, and the overall age and wear of the system. We take photos of everything we find.
Then we come down and show you what we saw. If there are problem areas, you will see exactly what they look like and where they are. If your roof is in good shape and just needs a few repairs, we will tell you that. We would rather earn your trust with an honest answer than earn a commission on a job you do not need yet.
If a replacement does make sense, we walk you through your options. We explain the difference between shingle grades, what the warranty coverage looks like at each level, and what we would recommend for your specific roof. We work primarily with CertainTeed's Landmark series for residential jobs. These are architectural shingles with a solid track record in our climate. Roofing in Northern Utah is different from roofing in Phoenix or Portland. We deal with all of it: heavy snow loads in winter, intense UV at elevation during summer, 50-degree temperature swings in a single day during spring and fall, and wind events that can come through fast and hard along the benches.
That is why we do not just slap shingles on a roof and call it done. Every residential job includes proper ice and water shield in the valleys and along the eaves, which is where ice dams do their damage. We install quality synthetic underlayment across the entire deck. Flashing gets done right the first time, because bad flashing is the number one source of leaks we see on other companies' work.
Ventilation is the other piece most homeowners do not think about. If your attic is not ventilated properly, you get heat buildup in summer that cooks your shingles from underneath, and moisture buildup in winter that leads to ice dams and condensation problems. We check your ventilation on every job and make recommendations if it needs improvement.

Most residential roof replacements take one to two days. A standard single-layer tear-off on a typical home is usually done in a day. Larger homes, steeper pitches, or roofs with multiple layers to remove can stretch to two days. We will give you a clear timeline before we start so you know what to expect.
Our crew arrives early and gets right to work. We protect your landscaping, set up tarps and drop zones, and run magnetic sweepers when we are done to catch every nail. Tear-off happens first, which is the loudest part. Once the old roof is off, we inspect every inch of the decking and address any soft spots or damage before anything new goes on.
Then the new system goes on in the right order: ice and water shield, underlayment, drip edge, starter strip, field shingles, ridge cap, and all the flashing details. When we are done, we do a full cleanup. Dumpster gets hauled away, yard gets raked, and we do a final walkthrough with you so you can see the finished product and ask any questions.

You do not have to be, but a lot of homeowners like to be around at the start so they can meet the crew and know what is happening. We will walk you through the plan before we start. After that, you are welcome to go about your day. We will call you if anything comes up, and we always do a final walkthrough together when the job is done.
This is one of the things you cannot know for sure until the old roof comes off. If we find soft spots, rot, or damaged decking boards, we will stop and show you exactly what we found. We take photos and explain your options before doing any additional work. Re-decking is priced per sheet, and we will never just add it to the bill without talking to you first.
That is one of the most common questions we get, and sometimes you do not know until someone gets up there and looks. A few missing shingles after a windstorm is almost always a repair.
