An honest inspection, real answers, and you stay in control of the process.
After a big storm rolls through Northern Utah, you will probably see roofing trucks from out of state parked on every corner and people knocking on doors telling you your roof is damaged. That is not us. We are not storm chasers. We are a local, family-owned company since 1988, and we will still be here long after those trucks leave town.
If you think your roof took damage from hail, wind, or debris, we are happy to come out and take a look. We will give you an honest assessment of what we find. If there is real damage, we will document it, explain your options, and help you figure out the best path forward. If your roof is fine, we will tell you that too. There is no reason to file a claim on damage that does not exist.
Our area gets hit by a few different kinds of storms, and each one affects roofs differently.
Hail is the one homeowners worry about most. We get hailstorms along the Wasatch Front, especially during summer. Hail damage shows up as dark spots on your shingles where the granules have been knocked off. It can also dent gutters, downspouts, and metal flashing. The tricky thing about hail damage is that it is not always visible from the ground.
Wind is the one we see the most. Canyon winds along the benches can be brutal, especially in spring and fall. Layton, Kaysville, Farmington, anywhere near the canyon mouths gets hit harder than the rest of the valley. Wind lifts shingle tabs, breaks the seal strip, and can tear shingles off entirely. Once a shingle lifts, the one next to it is exposed, and the damage spreads.
Fallen debris from trees, broken branches, and occasionally larger limbs landing on the roof. This kind of damage is usually obvious, but what is not always obvious is whether the impact damaged the decking underneath.
When we come out for a storm inspection, we get on the roof. Not a driveby, not a look from the ladder. We walk the entire surface and check every part of the system that a storm can affect.
That includes the shingles, looking for bruising, cracking, missing tabs, and lifted seal strips. We check all metal flashing around chimneys, skylights, and wall intersections, because that is often where hail does its quietest damage. We inspect gutters and downspouts for dents that confirm real hail impact, and we check every pipe boot, vent, and ridge cap on the roof. If you have a skylight, we look at the frame and glazing. We also go into the attic when we can, because water intrusion often shows up there before it shows up on your ceiling. Every finding gets photographed and documented so you have a complete record whether you file a claim or not.
The inspection is free. The photos are yours. And we will tell you straight what we found.
Here is where we do things differently from a lot of roofing companies. We believe your insurance claim belongs to you, not your roofer. Your insurance company works for you. We work for you. And you should be the one in control of that process.
We will never try to take over your insurance claim or become the middleman between you and your adjuster. What we will do is provide everything you need to handle it confidently. That includes detailed photos of the damage, a written assessment of what needs to be repaired or replaced, a breakdown of costs, and we are always available to answer questions from your adjuster if they need to talk to us.
Some companies push homeowners to sign over their claim or let the roofer negotiate with the insurance company on their behalf. Be careful with that. When a roofing company controls the claim, they are working for their own interests, not yours. We would rather give you the tools and information to manage it yourself.
Not every storm warrants an insurance claim. If you lost a few shingles and the repair is less than your deductible, filing a claim does not make sense. Claims go on your record, and too many claims can affect your rates or your ability to get coverage in the future.
A claim makes sense when the damage is widespread, when it exceeds your deductible by a meaningful amount, or when there is structural damage like broken decking or water getting into the house. The smart move is to get a free inspection from us first so you know what you are dealing with before you call your insurance company.
If the damage is significant, absolutely file a claim. Just make sure you understand the scope of the damage before you start the process so you can advocate for yourself effectively.

There is a lot of bad advice floating around after a storm. Here is what you actually need to know.
Not every storm causes damage worth claiming. Claims go on your record, and filing one for a minor repair that costs less than your deductible can hurt you down the road. Get an inspection first, then decide.
Your insurance company works for you. Your roofer works for you. You should be in the middle, not cut out of the process. A good roofer provides documentation and answers questions, but the claim is yours to manage.
Storm chasers have a financial incentive to find damage whether it is there or not. Get a second opinion from a local company that has a reputation to protect. If the damage is real, a second set of eyes will confirm it.
Insurance pays for documented damage, not upgrades. If a company promises you a free roof through insurance, ask how. Inflating claims is insurance fraud, and it is the homeowner who is liable if it comes to light.
Real answers about storm damage, insurance, and what to do next.
We get on the roof and walk the whole thing. We check every shingle slope for bruising, cracking, or lifted tabs. We inspect all metal flashing around chimneys, skylights, and wall intersections. We look at gutters and downspouts for hail dents, check every pipe boot, vent, and ridge cap, and go into the attic when accessible to look for signs of water intrusion. Every finding gets photographed and documented. The inspection is free, the photos are yours, and we will walk you through what we found before we leave.
Not necessarily. It depends on whether you actually have damage and whether that damage exceeds your deductible. A lot of homeowners call their insurance right away and open a claim before they even know if there is real damage. That can work against you because claims go on your record even if they do not pay out. The better move is to have a roofer inspect your roof first, get an honest assessment of whether there is damage, and then decide if filing a claim makes sense.
We will absolutely support you through the process. We take detailed photos, provide documentation of the damage, prepare repair or replacement estimates, and we are always available to answer questions from your adjuster if they need to talk to us. What we will not do is take over your claim or become the middleman between you and your insurance company. Both of us work for you, and you should be in control of the process.
Hail damage on shingles usually looks like dark spots or bruises where the granules have been knocked off. You might also see dents in your gutters, downspouts, or metal flashing. From the ground, it can be hard to tell. If you had a hailstorm come through your area and you are not sure, call us at (801) 544-5125 for a free inspection. We will get up there and tell you honestly whether there is damage worth addressing.
Be cautious. Storm chasers follow severe weather and go door to door looking for work. Some are legitimate, but many are out-of-state companies that will be gone before you know if the work was done right. They often push you to sign a contract on the spot and offer to handle your insurance claim for you. A reputable local roofer will never pressure you like that. Get a second opinion from a company with a local address and a track record in the community.
If you can see obvious damage like missing shingles or debris on the roof, call sooner rather than later, especially if there is any chance of water getting in. If you are just not sure whether the storm caused damage, there is no rush to panic, but it is a good idea to have it looked at within a few weeks so any issues do not get worse over time. We offer free inspections and we will tell you honestly what we find.
