Our Roofing Process

No surprises. No pressure. Here is exactly what to expect when you work with a family-owned roofing company that has been doing this since 1988.

We get it. Hiring a roofer feels like a big deal because it is a big deal. Your roof protects everything underneath it. That is why we built our process around education and transparency, not sales pressure. From the first phone call to the final walkthrough, you will know exactly what is happening and why.

Bob Harvey Roofing is a family-owned company serving Davis County, Weber County, and surrounding Northern Utah communities since 1988. Every crew member is a W-2 employee, not a subcontractor, ever. Here are the five steps every project follows, whether it is a small repair or a complete residential roof replacement.

1

What Happens During Your Free Roof Inspection?

Either Bob or JP will come to your home for a complete visual inspection of your roof, attic space, and ventilation, at no cost and no obligation. The inspection takes 30 to 60 minutes depending on the size and complexity of your roof.

We look at everything: shingles, flashing, vents, gutters, valleys, and penetrations. If there is reason to suspect deeper issues, we inspect the attic and decking as well. Depending on the roof, we may walk it directly, use a drone for aerial views, or both. Every inspection is documented with photos so you have a clear record of exactly what we found.

Bob has been roofing since he was a teenager, with more than 50 years of hands-on experience, and has run Bob Harvey Roofing across Davis County, Weber County, and Northern Utah since 1988. We have seen everything these climates can do to a roof, and we know the difference between something that needs attention now and something that can wait. Our goal is to give you an honest picture, not to sell you something you do not need.

How Does Bob Harvey Roofing Present Your Options?

After the inspection, we sit down with you, usually right at your kitchen table, and walk through everything we found using a digital presentation with actual photos of your roof. You will not get a number on the back of a business card.

Our presentation walks you through five topics: what questions to ask before hiring any roofer, the products and warranty options available to you, how we approach every project from start to finish, who we are and why that matters for your roof, and a detailed breakdown of your investment with clear pricing.

We want you to understand what you are paying for before you spend a dollar. We show you what each issue means in plain language, walk through your options (repair, replace, or wait), and explain exactly what warranty coverage different product choices unlock for you. As a CertainTeed ShingleMaster Premier Contractor contractor, we can offer enhanced protection that non-certified contractors cannot.

If your roof only needs a repair, we keep things simple. We discuss the scope and pricing either during the inspection itself or follow up by phone or email with your options clearly explained.

Either way, you walk away with hard copies of everything we discussed, and we email you a final written proposal for your records. Whether you need residential or commercial roofing, the same educational approach applies.

3

What If I Need Time to Decide?

Take all the time you need. We do not use countdown timers, "today only" pricing, or high-pressure follow-up calls. Your price is locked for 30 days, even if material costs go up.

Read moreShow less

This is where a lot of roofing companies lose people's trust, and it is something we feel strongly about. Your roof is a major investment, and we believe you deserve time to think it through, talk it over with your family, and compare your options. We will never pressure you into a fast decision.

Some homeowners are ready to move forward the same day because they have an active leak or storm damage that needs solving. Others are planning ahead for an aging roof and take a few weeks. Both are perfectly fine.

Your price is locked for 30 days. Even if material costs go up during that window, your price stays the same. After 30 days, we may need to update the pricing. And if you are holding off on scheduling, we will let you know upfront about any price increases we are aware of so you can plan accordingly.

When you are ready, we are here. If you decide to go a different direction, we respect that too. We have been a family-owned company in Northern Utah since 1988 because we treat people right, not because we chase them down. If you want to know what to look for when hiring a roofer, we wrote a guide on that too.

What to Expect Once You Say Yes

3-6W-2 crew members (never subcontractors)
2-5Days for a typical residential replacement
Pre-BuildMeeting before any work begins
50%Down payment, balance due at project completion

What Happens on Roof Installation Day?

Before any work begins, we schedule a Pre-Construction Meeting to walk through every detail of your project: staging areas, power access, vehicle placement, pet and landscaping considerations, and the full timeline.

On installation day, a crew of 3 to 6 team members arrives and works during daylight hours. Every person on that crew is a W-2 employee of Bob Harvey Roofing, not a subcontractor hired for the job. That means they know our standards, they have been trained on our processes, and they answer directly to us. This is one of the things that sets us apart from companies that scale up with temporary labor during busy season.

We protect your landscaping and property with tarps and ground covers during tear-off. For most jobs, we use a roofing buggy (an Equipter), a self-contained unit that catches debris directly as it comes off the roof, keeping your yard cleaner and reducing impact on your property. We handle dumpster placement and logistics so you do not have to.

A typical residential replacement takes 2 to 5 days depending on the size and complexity of the project. We know some companies advertise one-day installs. Our smaller crews take a little longer because they take more care: proper installation, clean lines, thorough flashing work, and attention to the details that determine how your roof performs for the next 25 to 50 years. Serving Layton and Northern Utah since 1988, we have learned that doing it right matters more than doing it fast.

We handle all required permits and municipal inspections for your area. You do not need to coordinate anything with your city. As for noise, removing and replacing a roof involves nail guns, material handling, and debris removal. You are welcome to stay home, but most homeowners find it easier to plan around the first day or two when tear-off is happening.

What Happens After My New Roof Is Installed?

When the last shingle is in place, the job is not done. Our operations manager or a crew foreman walks the completed project with you to make sure everything meets our standards, and yours.

The final walkthrough covers every detail: clean ridge lines, consistent shingle alignment, properly sealed flashing at all penetrations and valleys, secure vents and pipe boots, solid drip edge, and clear gutters. We also do a thorough ground-level cleanup, including a magnetic sweep of your yard and driveway to catch any stray nails. Your property should look as good as, or better than, it did before we showed up.

After the walkthrough, our office registers your manufacturer warranty with CertainTeed. You will receive your official warranty paperwork directly from CertainTeed within 2 to 6 weeks. Because Bob Harvey Roofing is a CertainTeed ShingleMaster Premier Contractor contractor, a certification held by a small percentage of roofing contractors nationwide, your installation qualifies for enhanced warranty coverage that is not available through non-certified installers. That certification is not just a badge on our website. It is the difference between standard coverage and the best warranty protection CertainTeed offers.

If something comes up down the road, whether it is a concern after a storm, a question about your warranty, or anything at all, call us at (801) 544-5125. We inspect the issue, diagnose the problem, and handle warranty repairs promptly at no additional cost. We have been a family-owned company in Northern Utah since 1988, and we plan to be here for a long time. Your roof is not a transaction. It is our reputation.

★★★★★
From the initial meeting with Bob Harvey, who went through different options with us and explained everything patiently and in detail, through the actual installation, everything went very smoothly. The crew showed up on time and WORKED HARD. After completion of the job, Bob came back to do a final inspection of the roof to ensure that everything was 100% up to par and that nothing was overlooked. As a customer, you can not ask for better, friendlier, more professional service.
