If you have decided it is time to go ahead with that roof replacement, you may want to stop for a moment and check if it is the right time of year. Roof work differs from season to season, and there are pros and cons to going ahead with a roof replacement in both the cold and warm seasons. Before you start ripping off the old shingles, decide when would be the best time of year to replace your roof. Here are some factors to consider.
The fall is considered the best time of year to replace your roof. Summer can be too hot to spend hours on a roof, exposed to the sun. On the other hand, it can be impossible to work in particularly cold winters. Fall is neither too hot, nor too cold. The working conditions are perfect. However, because everyone knows this to be the case, professional roofing companies can get very busy in the weeks from the beginning of September to mid-November, so you need to make your booking as early as possible.
After fall, summer is the most popular season for roof replacements. Although the temperatures can get too much at times, there is a good chance of clear weather, and the days are long and more conducive to getting the job done quickly and efficiently. However, it is better to do the work on early summer, or wait until the weather starts to cool towards the beginning of fall. If you try to do the work in peak summer, extreme temperatures can make it very difficult, if not impossible, for roofers to work.
Springtime is a great season to tackle your roof replacement. For us, as experienced roofing professionals, spring is probably the second-best time of year after fall. Business is starting to pick up after the slow winter, so we are more likely to be available than during the mad rush of summer and fall. The weather is generally mild and the humidity is low, so conditions are generally favorable for roofing work.
The cold weather is generally somewhat of a deterrent for roofers, but not necessarily. Before the real chill sets in, it is possible to get your new roof installed. Since business tends to be very quiet for us at this time of year, you have the best chance of getting a booking. One point to consider: if you want to install asphalt shingles, you may want to wait until the weather warms up. The lower temperatures can make the shingles more rigid and brittle, making cutting and nailing more of a challenge.
